Google is about to roll out a massive update that is being nicknamed ‘Mobile-Geddon’ and the Mobile Apocalypse of 2015.
To be rolled out on 21st April 2015.
It’s unusual that Google gives prior warning of a pending algorithm update but in this case they have. We believe this will be a very large update that will have an impact on all websites that are not mobile-friendly.
Here’s a snippet from Google’s official announcement:
“Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results.”
Am I Mobile Ready? What Does it Mean?
Mobile ready means that your website is easy to view and use on mobile devices without any left/right scrolling or zooming in/out with your mobile screen. The best way to achieve this is to have a mobile responsive website which resizes itself automatically depending on what device is viewing it.

How do I check if my website is Mobile-Friendly?
You can either get in contact with us and we’ll check over your site at no charge or you can use Google’s online checking tool: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/
If your website is not mobile-friendly get in touch with us or another web developer urgently to see what’s required to make it mobile responsive.

What will it mean for websites that aren’t Mobile-Friendly?
If you are not mobile-friendly where your website is ranked in Google will be affected for anyone searching your site from a mobile device, in some markets this could mean 50% of your current traffic will be affected negatively.
On the flip-side if you are mobile ready with a fully responsive website you can expect to leapfrog some of your less savvy competitors in the mobile search results.
We offer a free website review and health check which also includes mobile-friendly checks and advice. Get in touch today by clicking here or call Dan on 0434 002 708.
